  • Many modern pharmaceutical dosage forms are not optimal for autistic patients due to additives, dyes, sugar, etc. We can compound any medication to be free of yeast, gluten, wheat, casein, dye, sugar, etc. We also provide many of the commonly recommended compounds, in various dosage forms, for ASD patients including but not limited to:

    Medical Treatments For Autism (ASU)

  • Vitamins, minerals, and herbal preparations are a big part of what we do at Northshore Pharmacy. We specialize in making custom compounded combinations of different vitamins, minerals, and/or herbs to fit individual patients’ needs. We work with other healthcare professionals to develop prescriptions for various vitamin, mineral, and herbal formulas.

    These custom compounded formulas can come as a dry powder, where patients measure there daily dosages using a scooping device, as capsules, or even as a suspension. We can also add different flavors to meet individual patients’ needs.

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED) is estimated to affect 40% of men 40 years and older and approximately 70% of men aged 70 and older. In the United States there are between 15-30 million male patients who suffer from ED. Treatment with oral medications known as PDE-5 inhibitors (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra) work for some patients. However some patients are unable to take these medications due to drug interactions, adverse effects, or a lack of efficacy.

    Tri-Mix is an option for patients who are not candidates for oral treatment or for whom oral treatment is inadequate. Tri-Mix is a combination of phentolamine, papaverine, and alprostadil that is made into a sterile injectable that is injected directly into the shaft of the penis. The three active ingredients work in synergy to produce and maintain an erection. Fear of pain with self injection may discourage some men, however the majority of ED patients report the discomfort is minimal.

    Sex hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone play important roles in sex drive, improving bone health, increasing energy, increasing muscle tone, enhancing mood, enhancing memory, and many more processes. Every woman is different and hormone replacement therapy is a topic that should be discussed with a knowledgeable physician with experience in the field, with close monitoring and medication adjustments being essential.

    At North Shore Pharmacy all of our compounds are made with bio-identical hormones. What is bioidentical? A bioidentical hormone has the exact same molecular structure as the hormones already produced by the human body. Because their chemical structure is identical to our endogenous hormones, they generate the same physiological response in the body as the hormones already produced in our bodies.

    Naturally produced sex hormones include estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), estriole (E3), progesterone, testosterone, dehydroepiandrostene (DHEA), and pregnenolone. Numerous conditions, symptoms, and issues can be treated with BHRT. PMS symptoms, infertility, menopause and perimenopause, decreased libido, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, headaches, emotional instability, insomnia, hot flashes, depression, anxiety, loss of muscle tone, weight gain, hair loss, etc etc etc. Hormone replacement therapy is not a cure all, but when done correctly with proper monitoring and knowledgable healthcare professionals surrounding you it can be very beneficial.

    Estrogens:

    Estrogen has 400 different functions in the human body. The three main estrogens produced by the body are estrone, estradiol, and estriole. For hormone replacement therapy estradiol and estriol are often prescribed in combination to reestablish a normal physiological balance. Common signs and symptoms of estrogen deficiency include:

    • Hair loss

    • Dry irritated eyes

    • Vaginal dryness and painful intercourse

    • Lack of sexual desire

    • Fatigue and poor mood

    • Irregular periods

    • Hot flashes

    Progesterone:

    Progesterone may enhance estrogen activity while also moderating symptoms of estrogen dominance, such as water retention, fat accumulation, uterine bleeding, and mood swings. It also helps promote thyroid activity and may help improve bone health. Progesterone is also a very calming hormone and can be used to improve sleep and help with anxiety. Common sign and symptoms of progesterone deficiency include:

    Testosterone:

    Testosterone is often viewed strictly as a male hormone, however it is very important in female physiology as well. Testosterone is critical for increasing sex drive, energy, and muscle tone and strength. It also plays a role in fighting against osteoporosis, immune function, obesity, diabetes, and decreasing cholesterol. Common sign and symptoms of testosterone deficiency include:

    Dehydroepiandrostene (DHEA):

    DHEA is secreted more than any other hormone over a lifetime. It is made by the adrenal glands and is converted into various derivatives including estrogen and testosterone. DHEA has many functions in the body including helping protecting against infection, enhancing energy, and controlling the negative effects of cortisol excess. Common sign and symptoms of Dehydroepiandrostene (DHEA) deficiency include:

    • Dry skin

    • Anxiety and depression

    • Low sex drive

    • Low energy

    Pregnenolone:

    Pregnenolone is primarilly produced in the adrenal glands. DHEA, cortisol, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogens are made from pregnenolone. Pregnenolone may enhance mood and increase energy and memory.

  • Hormones do not decline because we age, we age because hormones decline. Around 30% of men aged 60-70 years old and 70% of men aged 70-80 years old have low levels of testosterone. Low levels of testosterone are found in association with decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, depression, anemia, decreased muscle mass, increased fat mass, osteoporosis, and many other symptoms.

  • Pain is one of the most difficult “diseases” to treat with modern medicine. As a compounding pharmacy we combine many different agents with different mechanisms for treating pain and create topical and transdermal pain creams and gels.

    The various agents we utilize can help alter the sensation of pain, decrease inflammation, and even block certain types of pain transmission. Compounded topical pain formulations allow us to target specific pain sites rather than taking pain pills which are dispersed throughout the entire body. Topical formulations offer the advantage of local, enhanced delivery to painful sites with reduced incidence of systemic adverse effects.

    We create many different pain transdermal gels and creams that treat various types of pain.   • At North Shore Pharmacy we understand that it is not always easy (or pleasant) to get your child to take their medications. Alternatively, some medications have additives that you may prefer your child not take. In the interest of providing what is best for your child, we are able to flavor medications to make them taste better, provide customized strengths, or change dosage forms to make it easier to administer your child’s medicine. We have numerous flavorings including banana, strawberry, orange, vanilla, cherry, raspberry, peppermint, and many more. We always use naturally derived flavors that are organic, non gmo, and free from artificial colors and flavors. We can customize your infant medicine to be free of soy, corn, sugar, gluten, casein, and any other product that you need to eliminate from your child's diet.

  • Symptoms of hypothyroidism, low thyroid levels, include: feeling tired, hypotension, fluid retention and bloating, cold and heat intolerance, depression, anxiety, slowed metabolism, constipation, hair loss, dry skin, irregular menstrual periods, aching muscles and joints, weight gain, hypoglycemia, PMS, concentration and memory impairment, and high cholesterol and triglycerides. More than half of all patients with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition.

    The two main thyroid hormones are thyroxine or T4, and triiodothyronine or T3. Thyroxine is converted in the body to the active form triiodothyronine. Many hypothyroid patients have had added success using bio-identical thyroid replacement in specialized customized ratios only achievable thru compounding. We can blend bio-Identical T4 and T3 powders in specific ratios to accommodate individual patients needs.

    Commercially available tablets contain fillers, dyes, and other added ingredients which don’t agree with many patients. We have the ability to omit all problem causing inactive ingredients.

  • Compounding is absolutely critical in providing proper doses and dosage forms for different animals. The goal of compounding for the veterinary patient is to enhance the veterinarian’s ability to treat patients in a more effective and efficient manner. Different animals metabolize medications differently, so unique individualized medications are often required. At Northshore Pharmacy we can prepare:

    • Medications in the correct dosage for your individual pets

    • Unavailable medications that may be necessary

    • Combinations of medications to make administration and adherence simplified

    • Medications in dosage forms that fit individual needs i.e. suspensions with different flavors (beef, chicken, liver, fish).

    Occasionally pets require medications that cannot be given orally. In these cases we can often incorporate the medication into a trans-dermal gel that is applied to the animal’s ear and rubbed into the skin, where it is then absorbed into the blood stream. Examples of some medications that this can be done for is methimazole, prednisolone, and amitriptyline.
